If you can’t handle politics, I suggest you leave now. I just wanted to share my experience and thoughts on the current discourse surrounding America, especially since the landscape is on fire—both literally and figuratively.
TikTok is one of my favorite platforms—it might even be my favorite of all time, at least for now. Or maybe I should say it’s my favorite social media platform. Either way, it’s phenomenal when it comes to content.
The thing is, you can find such real and raw accounts from people on this app—more so than on any other platform at the moment. But that’s not to say things haven’t changed for the worse. Big Tech in America isn’t happy with how things are going, and they’ve made strides to essentially step into the limelight within our government to push for the changes they want to see.
Now, when you try to look up certain keywords on TikTok, they’re censored. There are also new ads featuring sleazy celebrities who’ve aligned themselves with figures like Donald Trump and Elon Musk, alongside promotions for Meta apps. It’s grimy, and it’s sad to see another one of my favorite platforms go down this path.
In this section, I want to discuss some of the videos that appear on my “For You Page” (FYP). Of course, to some degree, they’ve been cherry-picked by yours truly, but they’re a strong representation of the kind of content I like to see and the kind of content that inspires me.
I want to show that your FYP is whatever you make it to be. TikTok isn’t just brain rot and nonsense—there’s real heart and soul in there. Sure, you could argue that every post might be some kind of inside job from an alternate country or something, but let’s not kid ourselves: America is leaning toward the deep end more than ever before. I wanted to present my take on the situation and what I think we need to value moving forward.
Of course, part of me is scared to put my political thoughts out there publicly, but I think it’s important to make my beliefs known. Doing so feels right and will continue to foster a stronger community around me—one that actually understands where I’m coming from. I just want the best for people, no matter your circumstances or who you are.
After all is said and done, I’ve laid it all out on the table for you to see and understand me.
